First published in English in 1939, Locomotive "is one of those books that sets the standard of book illustration", as the publisher's preface puts it. It was illustrated by a dynamic due of pre-war Polish illustrators, Lewitt and Him, and written by the renowned Polish author Julian Tuwim.
This book's illustration style harks back to soviet era Russian children's art, and preempts American picture books in the 1950s and '60s. The book contains three stories in total, all of which were included in the original.
For illustration buffs this book is an interesting piece of art history, and for children it's just a fun book about trains!
