Jean de Brunhoff (1899–1937) was a French writer and illustrator and creator of the Babar books, the first of which appeared in 1931. The book is based on a tale that Brunhoff's wife, Cécile, had invented for their children.

In this charming, tender installment of the beloved Babar series, King Babar and Queen Celeste prepare to welcome their first child—but are delightfully surprised when triplets arrive instead: Flora, Pom, and Alexander. Set in the warm and cozy atmosphere of Celesteville, the story follows the royal family's daily life as the children get into mischief—from minor scrapes to playful adventures—and are lovingly guided by their parents or helpful friends.
